Day 188 Dar Es Salaam

March 10, 2013 in 443 Days Around the World

This is the view from our hotel. I would share a video and more pictures from our day, but unfortunately I didn’t feel comfortable at. all. taking my camera out as we walked around Dar Es Salaam. And by “walked around Dar Es Salaam” I mean, walked for fifteen minutes from our hotel to the ferry to check times for the next day. After we checked times, we took an overpriced taxi to a coffee shop where we hung out all afternoon before meeting up with our friends Maryama and Emma for dinner. Aside from their wonderful company, it was a rather uneventful day.

Dar is less thrilling than Kampala was. At least in Kampala there were people around and the city had a bit of a buzz to it. In Dar, especially on a Sunday, it was void of energy, and had a creepy air to it, as if you were to take out your camera or not pay strict attention to your bag, one or both would disappear.

It’s frustrating, at least for me, to be in a place that I want to capture and be unable to take a photo. Instead, I kept everything on lockdown, keeping in mind that being able to take pictures later would be better than getting my camera stolen and not being able to take pictures at all.
