September 4: Two Years Ago exactly, Andrew and I woke up in Seoul, Korea to begin a 15-month adventure around the world with nothing more than a couple of backpacks. Today, We woke up in our apartment in Brooklyn, NY to walk Wallace before work. After 8 months in NYC, I still feel like I'm in transition.
September 6: Two Years Ago, We were sleeping and eating pho in Hanoi, Vietnam after spending the night in a Malaysian airport. Today, we attended a Lutheran wedding ceremony in a Jewish synagogue followed by an afternoon at UW's Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin.
October 5: Two Years Ago, we spent part of our day in a torrential downpour on a scooter - that ran out of gas in the middle of Bokor National Park outside of Kampot, Cambodia. Today, I tackled a pile of magazines I haven't had time to read until now!
January 12: Two Years Ago, I felt like Indiana Jones walking towards the treasury in Petra. Today, I stayed home sick. When I wasn't sleeping, I tried to focus on pretty things.
February 18: Two Years Ago, the kindergarten and first class put on an epic performance for us before we left Buseesa, Uganda. These kids had some serious moves. Today, we tried out The Book of Mormon lottery. (We didn't win...)
March 6: Two Years Ago, we witnessed seven lions take down a water buffalo on safari in the Ngorongoro Crater. Today, I got a love letter. It's our fifth anniversary together!
March 7: Two Years Ago, we visited an actual Masai village (not on the safari circuit) and chatted with a few young warriors. (I swear I did not pose him!) Today, I was a big fan of Zoë Buckman's "Sex Fiend" - hand embroidered Tupac lyrics on vintage lingerie at Spring/Break (part of Armory Week)!
April 11: Two Years Ago, we stumbled upon the "Life of a Dress" project in action and on display with some of Fiel dos Santos' sculptures. Inspirational, in more ways than one. Today, Smorgasburg was packed! We left to try some cocktails with our "Good Passport!"
April 30: Two Years Ago, we flew from Capetown to Joburg to Abu Dhabi to Istanbul. Our backpacks didn'tmake it. Today, I couldn't resist this shot en route to an art opening in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
May 4: Two Years Ago, we visited the Spice Market, Grand Bazaar, and the Rustem Pasha Mosque (the outside of it at least) in Istanbul. Today, I took a different train home and walked past the infamous Flatbush trees.
May 5: Two Years Ago, we spent the better part of the day in the beautiful Ayasofya (also known as the Hagia Sofia outside of Turkey). Today, I did a double take at this pealed paint... or is it abstract street art?
May 18: Two Years Ago, we woke up before 5 AM to climb up a cliff overlooking Göreme to watch the hot air balloons rise over Cappadocia. Today, I escorted my work buddy to Two Brothers, where he got the side eye for not knowing how much a slice of cheese cost.
May 22: Two Years Ago, I was awestruck by the Library of Celsus in Ephesus. Today, my favorite part of Friday was coming home to this guy... Or meeting him for dinner and a drink, especially when it's at Morgan's for ribs and cornbread.
May 27: Two Years Ago might have been my favorite day in Istanbul. The day ended (window) shopping for a Turkish carpet. We had the most amazing visit at Arsah Carpets. Huseyin was as sweet of a person as he was a talker. I must go back! Today, I declared to Andrew that I must, I need, I have to have more plants in our apartment!
June 4: Two Years Ago, I was in heaven strolling through and photographing Thira, Pyrgos, and Firostefani on Santorini. Today, I strolled around the block in Midtown, Manhattan during an afternoon break.
July 17: Two Years Ago, we went on our own ruin pub crawl. It was epic amounts of cool and fun. Today, we stopped at Bunsmith, a new Korean joint in our neighborhood. I was beyond pleased with the level of Korean details: water cups and bottle, Hite beer, rice bowl pot, soju shot glasses... It was like we were back in Seoul!
